Individuals - Help Us Help You
When working with us there are a few simple things that you can do to help us complete your return more quickly. Just a little attention saves a lot of time.
- Complete the tax return questionnaire and submit it with your documents.
- You should have received this document in the mail along with your organizer.
- You can download a copy of the 2022 questionnaire here.
- Please spend a little time with this document. By completing it fully and accurately it will avoid several emails from our office.
- Use your organizer to help you organize your information.
- You should have received this document in the mail from our office (if you were a client last year).
- The document contains your prior year tax information as well as your personal information.
- Use it:
- to confirm/update personal information.
- as a checklist for compiling your documents for the current year tax return.
- to communicate new information.
- Do not write in the organizer information that is provided on the standard tax forms that you are providing.
- We can pull this information directly off the tax documents.

- Follow this guide when submitting digital documents.
- PDF files are always the preference for digital documents.
- Image files (JPEG, PNG, GIF, TIFF, etc.) should be avoided. All scanners will scan directly to PDF. You may need to look at the settings if yours automatically produces an image file.
- Phone apps that convert pictures to PDF files should also be avoided.
- Excel files are always the preference vs. a PDF printout of the information.
- All documents should be complete and easy to read.
- Ensure that information in the margins wasn't cropped in the scanning process.
- Pencil doesn't scan well so ensure that written information can be easily read.
- Documents should be submitted via. ShareFile or your Karbon task list unless directed otherwise.
- PDF files are always the preference for digital documents.
- Do not submit receipts for expenses.
- For the following types of expenses we request that you submit summed totals vs. individual receipts.
- Medical expenses
- Sum your expenses into general groups (doctor, drug, insurance, vision, dental, etc.).
- You can communicate your sum totals on the organizer.
- Business expenses
- Provide your accounting records (QuickBooks, Excel, Zero, etc.).
- You can also communicate your sum totals on the organizer.
- Rental property expenses
- Provide your accounting records (QuickBooks, Excel, Zero, etc.).
- You can also communicate your sum totals on the organizer.
- Charitable contributions
- In this case we do request the individual receipts.
- We can not consider blank receipts (Goodwill, Habitat, etc.) for your return.
- Medical expenses
- For the following types of expenses we request that you submit summed totals vs. individual receipts.
- Provide your information in a complete file.
- Please do not provide your information until you have a more-or-less complete file.
- If information is coming to you late send us what you have so that we can arrange for an extension if needed.
